Energy Saving Tips

Most computers today use between 200-400 Watts every hour, running these over the cost of a year can cost a hundreds of pounds, especially with energy and fuel costs rising all the time. Use our tips to help save money on computer running costs.

1. Use Built in Power Saving Features.
All computers have some power saving features, Windows users can find this in Control Panel. More modern computers will usually have more advanced features for saving energy.

2. Turn off the Monitor instead of using a screensaver.
If you are away from your desk simply turn off your monitor and this will save a lot of energy. Screensavers do not save any energy.

3. Turn off the computer.
When going for lunch, long meetings or going home turn off your computer or at least use the sleep or standby modes, turning it off will not reduce it’s lifetime.

4. Turn down the Brightness on your display.
Turning down the brightness on a display makes it use less energy, this applies to laptops, mobile phones and desktop computers.

5. Use Blackle instead of Google.
This is a version of Google which uses a black background that saves energy.

6. Turn off Peripherals.
When leaving the Office at night turn off Devices such as Laser Printers and check if there are power saving modes that can be used on them in the daytime.
