Maple Managed Services FAQs

Q. How is Maple Managed Services going to benefit our company when we have a full-time I.T. technician on our Staff?

A. When you're on Maple Managed Service plan, we monitor dozens of aspects of your network’s infrastructure and components – in one working hour we can monitor far more than just one person. We usually work in unison with a company's resident I.T. expert, and alert him or her to issues (or potential issues) that occur. This can range from a hard-disk becoming full, or a machine that’s starting to run out of memory, right up to a potential failure in a server’s disk array or a routing error that could grind a network to a complete halt.

Q. How is my network monitored?

A. We use special monitoring software which allows us to specify which aspects of your network to monitor. We install the Maple Managed Services Client software on your server which then polls (gathers information from) your network and sends it back to our server here at Maple Systems. We receive alerts when anything unusual occurs, and indeed we receive alerts to let us know that everything's working fine too.

At any given moment in the working day (9am to 5.45pm weekdays) there is at least one dedicated Systems Engineer within Maple's technical department, whose task it is to monitor these alerts on your behalf. At the slightest hint of anything unusual, we call you immediately and suggest a solution.

Prevention is better than a cure, and Maple Managed Services puts you ahead of the game when it comes to network stability and security.

Q. How does Maple Managed Services connect to my network?

A. When you ask us to work on your network remotely, we use "remote control" software that allows us to control any of your computers from our workshop here at Maple Systems. This software is a highly secure, award-winning program that utilises a 256-bit encryption algorithm. Your network is in good hands!

Q. What is the minimum number of servers/devices required for Maple Managed Services?

A. In theory, just 1 server and 1 device. Although this might seem like an unusually sophisticated level of monitoring for just 2 computers, it would depend on just how vital those machines were to your organisation’s functionality.

There is no average number of servers/devices that any one customer might have. Currently one of our Managed Service customers has 1 server and 4 client machines, and another customer runs 10 servers and over 100 monitored devices. This is something we’d discuss together at the initial (free!) consultation.

Q. Can I trial Managed Services first, before I commit to a contract?

A. Of course. We offer a 30-day trial. Although an installation fee is chargeable for the trial period, you are under no obligation to continue the service if you think Maple Managed Services is not for you.

Alternatively, once the trial period has concluded, you may wish to make suggestions on how to tailor the Maple Managed Services package to better suit your needs.

Q. What sort of feedback do I get from Maple Managed Services?

A. In addition to phone calls and emails from our Systems Engineers whenever we need to bring an alert to your attention, Maple Managed Services customers receive a monthly report detailing network activity, alerts summary, Windows events and errors, statistical analysis of bandwidth, network service availability and general network trends, resources utilisation on local machines (memory, processing and hard disks) and any such other information that you might request and we have the ability to provide.
